Laal Singh Chaddha, Aamir Khan’s passion project, opens in theatres today, August 11.
Laal Singh Chaddha, starring Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan, opened in theatres on Thursday. The movie’s August 11 release date was changed from its initial Baisakhi release date. From his early years as a child with special needs through his recruitment into the Indian Army, Laal Singh Chaddha’s life is covered in the trailer. While Kareena is shown as his love interest, it also features Khan in various age groups.
The Naga Chaitanya-directed film also marks Naga Chaitanya’s Bollywood debut. On May 29, during the Indian Premier League (IPL) championship game, the movie’s trailer was unveiled.
“Meri mommy kehti thi zindagi golgappe jaisi hondi hai, pet bhale hi bhar jaave, mann nahi bharta,” is heard in the movie’s opening moments as Aamir picks up a feather. In the Tom Hanks-led film Forrest Gump, the identical line was used: “My mama always said life was like a box of chocolates. You can never predict what you will receive.
In the meantime, a boycott of the next Aamir Khan film has been called for online. In order to show how pathetically little advance booking there is for the movie, some users even provided screenshots.
Taran Adarsh, a critic and industry expert for movies, tweeted, “STOP creating a rosy picture… Let’s establish the truth first. Laal Singh Chaddha and Raksha Bandhan advance reservations are WAY BELOW EXPECTATIONS. Both rely on I spot bookings/walk-in audiences and [ii] word of mouth to post significant day one totals.
